Alabama DL Da’Shawn Hand arrested on DUI charges
Alabama Crimson Tide defensive lineman Da’Shawn Hand is a key cog in Nick Saben’s potentially national championship caliber defense. He’s a preseason All-SEC performer.
He’s also in a bit of trouble off the field.
Hand was arrested early Saturday morning for driving under the influence of alcohol (via Tide Sports).
Alabama head coach Nick Saben released the following statement.
“This type of behavior is not acceptable and we are disappointed in Da’Shawn’s actions,” Saben said. “We are still gathering information and will evaluate what we need to do in terms of appropriate discipline as we move forward, so better choices and decisions can be made in the future.”
Reading between the lines there, it’s not yet known whether Hand will face disciplinary action. What we do know is that he let his team down here. Expected to be one of the top defenders for the Crimson Tide this season, Hand’s future is up in the air.
The Senior recorded 21 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and two sacks for Alabama last season.
