Report: Twins expected to be sellers at MLB trade deadline

The Minnesota Twins’ brass seems a tad confused about the direction of the team. Shortly after acquiring veteran starter Jaime Garcia earlier in the month, it was reported that the Twins were looking to move Garcia as well as fellow starter Ervin Santana. This comes after the team yielded a top-25 prospect to the Atlanta Braves for Garcia.

Now comes this report from Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish indicating that the Twins are going into full-scale selling mode heading into Monday’s non-waiver trade deadline.

“The Twins have definitively decided to sell pieces in advance of Monday’s non-waiver trade deadline, a major-league source confirmed Saturday. Minnesota is expected to make moves over the next 48 hours,” Cotillo reported.

In addition to the two aforementioned starters, Brian Dozier, Matt Belisle and Brandon Kintzler could draw interest. For his part, the 30-year-old Dozier would likely draw a huge return. The second baseman hit .268 with 42 homers and 99 RBI. He’s put up three consecutive 100-plus run seasons and is among the best hitting middle infielders in the game.

Minnesota entered this weekend’s action with a 50-51 record and four games out of the final wild card spot. Despite still being in contention, it appears the team is ready to throw in the towel and go into full-scale rebuild mode.
