Rockies closer Greg Holland injured in kitchen accident

MLB

The Colorado Rockies could very well be without closer Greg Holland for a bit here. The team announced Wednesday evening that Holland, who leads the Majors with 33 saves this season, injured his hand in a kitchen accident.

“He cut his index finger on his throwing hand,” Rockies manager Black said, via ESPN.com. “It’s really day to day. We’ll see how it progresses the next five or six hours.”

This doesn’t appear to be a long-term injury, as Holland did attempt to give it a go on Wednesday. But it could very well impact Colorado over the short term.

After missing all of the 2016 season to injury, Holland signed a one-year, $7 million deal with the Rockies this past winter. He’s responded by posting a stellar 1.64 ERA and 1.04 WHIP while striking out 50 batters in 38.1 innings on the season.

Colorado is currently in playoff positioning with a 61-47 mark. Let’s all hope Holland can return sooner rather than later after such a freak accident.
