Alabama will not suspend star DL Da’Shawn Hand following DUI arrest
In news that promises to bring out the naysayers in a big way, the Alabama Crimson Tide and head coach Nick Saban have decided not to suspend star defensive lineman Da’Shawn Hand after he was arrested on DUI charges last weekend.

"Saban on DeShaun Hand: If does everything he is supposed to do, he will not be suspended."
It’s an interesting decision, especially considering Saban himself had some strong words about the incident less than a week ago.
“This type of behavior is not acceptable and we are disappointed in Da’Shawn’s actions,” Saban said. “We are still gathering information and will evaluate what we need to do in terms of appropriate discipline as we move forward, so better choices and decisions can be made in the future.”
Hand, a projected early-round pick in next year’s NFL Draft, is expected to play a major role for the No. 1-ranked Crimson Tide this upcoming season. The Senior recorded 21 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and two sacks last season.
Alabama has received criticism for its lack of action in terms of punishing players in the past. One has to wonder if Hand wasn’t an elite-level defender, would he have been suspended or kicked off the team altogether? Such is the nature of the beast in a college football world that has seemingly been more professional than amateur in recent years.
