Rangers take out ad in Japanese newspaper to thank Yu Darvish
Right before the July 31 trade deadline, the Texas Rangers traded starting pitcher Yu Darvish to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Darvish responded with a classy gesture, taking out an ad in the Dallas Morning News to thank his former team and its fans.
The Rangers reciprocated by taking out an ad in Yomiuri Shimbun, a Japanese newspaper, in which they thanked Darvish in his native language.
Per Ashley Varela of Hardball Talk, the ad translated to English as…
“To Yu Darvish
In appreciation for your dedication to hard work and many accomplishments
Since 2012
Thank you for an All-Star performance
From your Texas Rangers family.”
That’s a nice gesture on Texas’ part. It’s certainly something that will get noticed by players around the league, making the Rangers look like a classy organization. This can only help in their future endeavors.
Darvish threw a gem on Friday in his first start with the Dodgers. He pitched seven shutout innings against the New York Mets, surrendering only three hits and one walk while striking out 10 batters.
